Melfort RCMP: charges laid after shooting at Melfort residence

Early on April 17, 2026, Melfort RCMP received a report of a shooting at a residence on Burrows Avenue in Melfort. Investigation determined an altercation occurred between a group of individuals. A firearm was discharged, striking one individual, who was treated in hospital for injuries described as non-life-threatening in nature.
Officers arrested four individuals at the residence. Officers seized two firearms, firearm parts, as well as a side-by-side and generators that investigation determined has been reported as stolen from a business in Melfort earlier that day.
One of the arrested individuals assaulted an officer while being transported to police cells.
As a result of continued investigation into the shooting and firearms seized, 32-year-old Austin Patton from Melfort is charged with:
- one count, reckless discharge of a firearm, Section 244.2(3), Criminal Code;
- three counts, possession of a firearm while prohibited, Section 117.01(1), Criminal Code;
- one count, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, Section 88(1), Criminal Code;
- two counts, possession of a weapon obtained by crime, Section 96(1), Criminal Code.
30-year-old Shayla Tataquason-Bear from Tisdale is charged with:
- two counts, fail to comply with probation order, Section 733.1(1), Criminal Code;
- three counts, possession of a firearm while prohibited, Section 117.01(1), Criminal Code;
- one count, assault police officer, Section 270(2), Criminal Code; and
- one count, possession of a weapon obtained by crime, Section 96(1), Criminal Code.
As a result of continued investigation into the stolen items, 40-year-old Tyrone Rogers from Melfort is charged with:
- one count, break and enter with intent, Section 348(1)(a), Criminal Code;
- one count, theft of motor vehicle, Section 333.1(1), Criminal Code;
- one count, mischief over $5,000, Section 430(4) Criminal Code; and
- one count, possession of break-in instruments, Section 351(1), Criminal Code.
The fourth individual arrested was released without charge.
All three accused are scheduled to appear in Melfort Provincial Court on April 20, 2026 (Information #90578873 and 90576013).
