Sandy Bay RCMP: youth charged with arson

On April 5, 2026, at approximately 1:00 a.m., Sandy Bay RCMP received a report of a fire at a house in Sandy Bay.

Officers immediately responded. No injuries were reported to police. The house was unoccupied at the time and heavily damaged.

Investigators with the Saskatchewan Public Safety Agency assisted. 

After further investigation, RCMP arrested a male teenager on April 13, 2026. 

They have been charged with one count, arson – damage to property, Section 434 Criminal Code. The youth is scheduled to appear in Sandy Bay Provincial Court on May 7, 2026 (Information #Y409589). 

We are unable to identify the male teenager as per the Youth Criminal Justice Act and are refraining from providing his name as well as his specific age.

Sandy Bay RCMP continue to investigate this incident, as well as other structure fires (four houses and one outbuilding) that have occurred in Sandy Bay since October 2025. It’s believed the fires may have been deliberately set. The investigations include determining whether there is any potential link between the incidents. Saskatchewan RCMP’s General Investigation Section is supporting Sandy Bay RCMP with these investigations.
