Weekend stabbing investigated by Battlefords RCMP/GIS

Battlefords RCMP Detachment and General Investigation Section are investigating a stabbing that occurred on April 25. 

Around 4:00 a.m. April 25 Battlefords RCMP received a report of a male yelling on the 1700 block of 105th Street in North Battleford. Two more calls were received shortly after, and it was reported a male was seriously injured. 

Multiple Battlefords RCMP officers responded and entered a residence on 105th Street as there was concern for the safety of people inside. They located a seriously injured adult male with stab wounds and provided initial medical assistance until EMS arrived and transported him to hospital. An adult female was also transported to hospital for treatment of injuries. 

Initial investigation has determined an altercation took place inside the residence on 105th Street between two adult males. One male stabbed the other male during the altercation. An adult female was also injured during the altercation. The adult male suspect was arrested by RCMP outside another residence on 105th Street. 

As a result of RCMP investigation: 

24-year-old Shelwin Tootoosis of North Battleford is charged with one count, aggravated assault, section 268(2) and one count, assault with a weapon, section 267(a) of the Criminal Code. 

He appeared in North Battleford Provincial Court on April 27 at 9:30 a.m.
