Bicycle Safety Week is rolling into North Battleford from May 10–16, and Battlefords RCMP are gearing up to help young riders stay safe on Saskatchewan roads.

Throughout the week, Grade 3 students in North Battleford, Battleford, and surrounding communities will take part in the annual youth bike rodeo. The event is an interactive, RCMP-led initiative designed to give kids the skills and confidence they need before they hit the road.

Officers will guide participants through key safety fundamentals, including how to properly inspect their bikes to ensure everything is in good working order, the importance of wearing a helmet every time they ride, and how to achieve a proper helmet fit. Students will also learn essential road safety rules and practice correct hand signals, helping them steer clear of danger and ride with confidence.

The hands-on portion of the bike rodeo includes a riding course where students can put their skills to the test. They’ll practice stopping, signaling, and proceeding safely through intersections.

Battlefords RCMP expect approximately 400 students to participate in this year’s event. The initiative is part of the RCMP’s ongoing commitment to community safety and youth education, ensuring the next generation of cyclists is well-equipped to navigate our communities safely.
