On May 11, 2026, around 8:30 a.m., Prince Albert RCMP received a report that the school on Sturgeon Lake First Nation received information about a potential threat.
Officers immediately responded. The school enacted its hold and secure protocols as officers checked the school carefully. No indication of an imminent threat was noted. Officers maintained an increased police presence in the community. The school maintained its hold and secure protocols throughout May 11 and cancelled classes on May 12.
Prince Albert RCMP continued to investigate the source of the threat and provided updates to the school and community leadership. Investigation determined the initial report originated from outside of Canada. The individual had observed threatening content, directed toward the school, on a social media platform. As a result of investigation, officers arrested a male teenager at a residence on Sturgeon Lake First Nation on May 12. They seized a BB gun, knife and axe at the residence. Investigation has determined the male teenager was a student at the school.
As a result of continued investigation, the male teenager is charged with three counts, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, Section 88(1), Criminal Code and one count, uttering threats, Section 264.1(1)(a), Criminal Code.
We are unable to identify the male teenager as per the Youth Criminal Justice Act.
He has appeared in Prince Albert Provincial Court and was remanded into custody until his next scheduled appearance on May 20 (Information #Y403116).
