Nipawin RCMP arrested and charged an adult female with assault after she drove into an occupied police vehicle.

On May 15, 2026 at approximately 8:30 p.m., Nipawin RCMP received a report of a theft in Choiceland, SK. It was reported that an individual left a business with merchandise that had not been paid for. The individual was last seen leaving the area in an SUV.

Nipawin RCMP responded and located a vehicle matching the SUV’s description in the White Fox area. Officers activated their vehicle’s emergency equipment and initiated a traffic stop. The SUV did not stop; it fled from police at a high rate of speed. Officers made patrols in the area in search of the SUV.

Shortly after, Nipawin RCMP located the SUV approaching Nipawin on Highway #35, west of the bridge. Nipawin RCMP re-engaged their vehicle’s emergency equipment and positioned the police vehicle in the westbound lane of the highway to stop traffic. The SUV struck the parked police vehicle, colliding with its passenger side. Both the SUV and the police vehicle were disabled. Three occupants from inside the SUV were arrested at the scene. No physical injuries were reported by the occupants of the SUV or the police officer who was involved in the collision.

As a result of investigation, 30-year-old Alyssa Natewayes from Sandy Bay is charged with:

  • one count, flight from peace officer, Section 320.17, Criminal Code;
  • one count, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, Section 320.13(1), Criminal Code;
  • one count, assault on police officer, Section 270.01(2), Criminal Code; and
  • one count, fail to comply with release order condition, Section 145(5)(a), Criminal Code.

Alyssa Natewayes was also arrested on an outstanding warrant from Prince Albert Police Service.

The other two occupants from the SUV were released from police custody, one without charge and one with a charge pending. A court information is not yet sworn for the individual with the pending charge, which is related to the initial report of theft.

Alyssa Natewayes appeared in Melfort Provincial Court on May 19, 2026. Her next court appearance is on May 25, 2026.
