Battlefords RCMP: three charged after firearm discharge in North Battleford

Two males and a female have been charged after a firearm was discharged at a male walking his dog.

On June 26, 2026 at approximately 8:00 p.m., Battlefords RCMP received a report of a firearm discharge on 8th Avenue North in North Battleford, SK.

Investigation determined an adult male was walking his dog. A truck with multiple occupants inside approached the male. The occupants uttered threats and discharged a firearm, injuring the dog. The truck then fled from the area. The dog was declared deceased at the scene. The male did not report physical injuries to police.

Shortly after the incident, Battlefords RCMP located the suspect’s truck parked outside a residence on 110 Street in North Battleford. Three males exited the residence and were arrested without incident. A female fled from the residence on foot. She was arrested by Battlefords RCMP.

Battlefords RCMP, with the assistance of Saskatchewan RCMP’s Critical Incident Response Team, obtained a warrant and searched the residence. Officers located and seized two firearms.

As a result of continued investigation, 37-year-old Dennis Kennedy from North Battleford is charged with:

  • one count, possession of a firearm with tampered serial number, Section 108(1)(b), Criminal Code;
  • one count, injuring or endangering other animals, Section 445(1)(a), Criminal Code;
  • one count, careless use of a firearm, Section 86(1), Criminal Code;
  • one count, discharge firearm while being reckless, Section 244.2(3), Criminal Code;
  • one count, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, Section 88(1), Criminal Code;
  • one count, possession of a firearm/weapon/device/ammunition in motor vehicle, Section 94(1), Criminal Code;
  • one count, possession of a prohibited weapon when knowing possession unauthorized, Section 92(2), Criminal Code;
  • one count, unauthorized possession of a prohibited weapon or restricted weapon, Section 91(1), Criminal Code;
  • one count, operation while prohibited, Section 320.18(1)(b), Criminal Code;
  • one count, possession of a restricted/prohibited weapon with ammunition without a license/registration, Section 95(1), Criminal Code; and 
  • one count, weapons possession contrary to order, Section 117.01(1), Criminal Code.

53-year-old Allan Desmeules from North Battleford is charged with:

  • one count, unsafe storage of firearms, Section 86(2), Criminal Code;
  • one count, unauthorized possession of a firearm, Section 91(1), Criminal Code;
  • one count, possession of a firearm when knowing possession unauthorized, Section 92(1), Criminal Code; and
  • two counts, weapons possession contrary to order, Section 117.01(1), Criminal Code.

39-year-old Tashina Whitstone from Red Pheasant Cree Nation is charged with:

  • one count, uttering threats to animals, Section 264.1(1), Criminal Code; and
  • one count, resist/obstruct peace officer, Section 129(a), Criminal Code.

One of the males was later released from police custody without charge.

Dennis Kennedy appeared in North Battleford Provincial Court on June 29, 2026. Allan Desmeules and Tashina Whitstone are scheduled to appear in North Battleford Provincial Court on August 17, 2026.
