Pelican Narrows RCMP: two charged after guns, drugs are seized

Pelican Narrows RCMP have charged two people after seizing firearms, illicit drugs and trafficking paraphernalia at a residence in Pelican Narrows.

On June 30, Pelican Narrows RCMP received a report that an individual was being forcibly confined in a residence.

Officers attended the residence and determined an adult male had assaulted an individual, who reported non-life-threatening injuries to police. The individual had also been prevented from leaving the residence.

Further investigation led to officers seizing two firearms, an imitation firearm, ammunition, approximately 40 grams of crystal methamphetamine, a small amount of fentanyl, cash and trafficking paraphernalia at the residence. An adult male and female were arrested.

The male assaulted a police officer, and tried unsuccessfully to escape, during his arrest. The police officer was not seriously injured.

As a result of continued investigation, 36-year-old Colin Ballantyne and 32-year-old Alyson Custer, both from Pelican Narrows, are each charged with:

- one count, possession for the purpose of trafficking (fentanyl), Section 5(2), Controlled Drugs and Substances Act;

- one count, possession for the purpose of trafficking (methamphetamine), Section 5(2), Controlled Drugs and Substances Act; 

- two counts, careless storage of a firearm, Section 86(1), Criminal Code;

- two counts, unsafe storage of a firearm, Section 86(2), Criminal Code

- two counts, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, Section 88(1), Criminal Code;

- two counts, carry a concealed weapon, Section 90(1), Criminal Code;

- two counts, possession of a firearm without a license, Section 91(1), Criminal Code;

- one count, possession of a prohibited weapon with ammunition, Section 95(1), Criminal Code;

- one count, possession of the proceeds of crime under $5,000, Section 354(1)(a), Criminal Code; and

- two counts, remove a serial number on a firearm, Section 108(1)(a), Criminal Code.

Colin Ballantyne is also charged with:

- one count, assault, Section 266, Criminal Code;

- one count, unlawful confinement, Section 279, Criminal Code;

- one count, assault peace officer, Section 270(2), Criminal Code;

- one count, resist peace officer, Section 129(a), Criminal Code;

- two counts, possession of a firearm knowing its possession in unauthorized, 92(1), Criminal Code; and

- three counts, possession of a firearm while prohibited, Section 117.01(1), Criminal Code.

They appeared in Prince Albert Provincial Court on July 2 (Information #90564275, 90564276, 90573718, 90573719).
