Nipawin RCMP: three firearms located in vehicle that fled from police

Two individuals were arrested and three firearms were seized after a vehicle fled from police in the Nipawin area.

On September 6, 2026, Nipawin RCMP observed an SUV whose license plate did not match the plate registered to the vehicle. Officers initiated a traffic stop. The SUV fled from police.

Nipawin RCMP continued to investigate.

On September 8, 2026, Nipawin RCMP were making patrols and located the same SUV parked outside a residence on 7^th Avenue West in Nipawin. The SUV had occupants inside.

Officers activated their vehicle’s emergency equipment and approached the SUV with their police vehicle. Three occupants, a male and two females, exited the SUV. The male and one of the females fled on foot. Both females were arrested by Nipawin RCMP. At this time, the male has not been located.

During a subsequent search of the SUV, Nipawin RCMP located and seized three firearms, ammunition, and a mask. 

Nipawin RCMP also determined the SUV was previously reported as stolen in Prince Albert, SK.

As a result of continued investigation, 45-year-old Genevieve McKay from Carrot River, SK and 37-year-old Stephanie Harris from Cumberland House, SK are each charged with:

• one count, possession of property obtained by crime over $5000, Section 354(1)(a), Criminal Code; 
• one count, unsafe storage of firearms, 86(2), Criminal Code;
• three counts, unauthorized possession of a firearm, Section 91(1), Criminal Code;
• three counts, possession of a firearm when knowing possession unauthorized, Section 92(1), Criminal Code; and
• one count, possession of a firearm/weapon/device/ammunition in motor vehicle, Section 94(1), Criminal Code.

Genevieve McKay was additionally charged with:

• two counts, fail to comply with release order condition, Section 145(5)(a), Criminal Code; and
• one count, resist/obstruct peace officer, Section 129(a), Criminal Code.

Genevieve McKay was also arrested on an outstanding warrant from Carrot River RCMP.

Genevieve McKay and Stephanie Harris appeared in court in Nipawin on September 9, 2026.

Nipawin RCMP continue to investigate, which includes working to identify and locate the male suspect.
