Saskatchewan RCMP’s Roving Traffic Unit seize over 2,000 pounds of illegal cannabis

Saskatchewan RCMP’s Roving Traffic Unit (RTU) seized 1,928 pounds of dried cannabis, 56 pounds of hashish, and 15 litres of THC resin during a traffic stop in the Maple Creek area.
On September 4, 2026, Saskatchewan RCMP’s Roving Traffic Unit (RTU) were conducting safety patrols on Highway 1, near Maple Creek.
At approximately 12:30 p.m., RTU officers stopped an eastbound vehicle for a violation of the Saskatchewan Vehicle Equipment Regulations.
As part of their subsequent investigation, RTU officers located and seized approximately 1,928 pounds of dried cannabis, 56 pounds of hashish, and 15 litres of THC resin inside the vehicle.
An adult male, who told the investigators he was travelling from British Columbia to Ontario, was arrested at the scene.
56-year-old Istvan Mikula from Rosedale, BC, is charged with:
- one count, possession of illicit cannabis for the purpose of distribution, Section 9(2), Cannabis Act,
- two counts, possession of an illicit cannabis derivative for the purpose of distribution, Section 9(2), Cannabis Act, and
- one count, possession of proceeds of crime under $5000, Section 354(1)(a), Criminal Code.
Istvan Mikula is scheduled to appear in court in Maple Creek, SK, on January 14, 2027.
