Nipawin/Smeaton RCMP have charged an adult male after a loaded handgun, cocaine, methamphetamine, and other illicit substances were seized during a traffic stop in Nipawin.
On September 26, 2026 at approximately 4:15 a.m., Nipawin/Smeaton RCMP were patrolling in the community. They performed a traffic stop on a vehicle for a driver’s license, registration, and sobriety check. During the traffic stop, officers noticed open alcohol in the vehicle in plain view. Investigation determined the driver was impaired and he was arrested.
During a search of the driver, officers located and seized a loaded handgun. While searching the vehicle, 21 grams of cocaine, four grams of methamphetamine, 44 grams of hydromorphone, 84 milligrams of fentanyl patches, ammunition, weapons, cash, drug trafficking paraphernalia, identification belonging to other individuals and a wallet previously reported stolen to Nipawin RCMP were seized.
As a result of investigation, 39-year-old Jered Waddington from Nipawin has been charged with:
- one count, operation while impaired (alcohol) of motor vehicle, Section 320.14(1)(a), Criminal Code;
- one count, possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000, Section 354(1)(a), Criminal Code;
- one count, unauthorized possession of a firearm, Section 91(1), Criminal Code;
- one count, possession of a firearm when knowing possession unauthorized, Section 92(1);
- one count, carrying concealed weapon, Section 90(1), Criminal Code;
- one count, possession of weapon for dangerous purpose, Section 88(1), Criminal Code;
- one count, possession of restricted firearm/prohibited weapon with ammo without licence/registration, Section 95(1);
- one count, careless use of a firearm, Section 86(1), Criminal Code;
- one count, possession of a firearm and ammunition in a motor vehicle, Section 94(1), Criminal Code;
- one count, possession of weapon obtained by crime, Section 96(1), Criminal Code; and
- one count, possession for the purpose of trafficking - other, Section 5(2), Controlled Drugs and Substances Act.
