On April 30, shortly after 7pm, Whitehorse RCMP responded to a report of a person with a gun inside a building on 6th Avenue in downtown Whitehorse known as Blood Ties Four Directions. The building was quickly evacuated by quick-thinking staff members, and responding officers ensured the building and surrounding area was contained and safe.

Initial reports stated that an adult female entered the facility with a gun, which she pointed at people inside, and remained inside the building.

The M Division RCMP Critical Incident Program, including Crisis Negotiation Team, Police Dog Services, and Emergency Response Team, quickly deployed to the area and began efforts to communicate with the female inside the building.

After receiving no response, the team was eventually able to confirm two people remained inside the building and a firearm was present. Police safely entered the building where they encountered two adult females who remained uncooperative and were arrested with the assistance of Police Dog Services at approximately 11:00pm. A replica firearm was recovered at the scene.

53-year-old, Lisa Bunbury, and 23-year-old, Safyre Roberts, have been charged with following offences:

  • Pointing a Firearm
  • Carry an imitation firearm for the purposes of committing an offence
  • Uttering Threats

Both are scheduled to appear in court on May 1, 2025.

The RCMP can confirm that no shots were fired during the event and both females were medically assessed for minor injuries prior to being held at the Arrest Processing Unit at the Whitehorse Correctional Center.

We want to thank everyone for their careful cooperation throughout this incident. The investigation remains ongoing and we’ll update the public if new information is available.
