Yukon RCMP executed a search warrant at a residence in the Granger Subdivision of Whitehorse on April 19, 2026, as part of an investigation into possession of a firearm.

Police responded after receiving a report that a male was observed possessing a handgun. The Yukon RCMP Crime Reduction Unit launched an investigation, which led to the issuance of a search warrant. Due to the nature of the report, the RCMP’s Critical Incident Program was deployed, including the Emergency Response Team, to assist with the execution of the warrant.

During the search, officers located a realistic-looking black semi-automatic pistol. Further examination determined the item was not a firearm, but an imitation.

No charges have been laid in relation to this investigation.

Yukon RCMP would like to remind the public that the possession or use of a realistic or imitation firearm during the commission of an offence carries the same criminal penalties as the use of a real firearm, under the Criminal Code of Canada. Items made to closely resemble firearms can pose serious risks to public safety and to responding officers.
