Dawson City RCMP successfully coordinated the helicopter extraction of two individuals from a residence on an island in the Yukon River.
At approximately 5:15 p.m. on May 7, Dawson City RCMP received a request to assist the Yukon Emergency Measures Organization in the rescue of two residents from their home on Sister Island, located approximately 5 km downriver on the Yukon River. The individuals reported that their house and property were actively flooding due to the release of an ice jam and the resulting sudden increase of ice and water.
An RCMP Search and Rescue Manager was notified, and a coordinated helicopter extraction was initiated. Both individuals and their pets were safely extracted by approximately 6:45 p.m. without injury and were transported to Dawson City.
