Whitehorse RCMP have set their 2026/2027 policing priorities based on input and consultation from the Whitehorse community, local leadership, governments, and stakeholders. Public input plays an important role in ensuring our policing efforts reflect the needs and concerns of the community we serve.
The following three priorities have been identified:
- Traffic and Impaired Driving Enforcement
Focus on reducing impaired driving (alcohol and drugs) and addressing unsafe driving behaviours through targeted enforcement and education to enhance public safety. - Visibility and Community Engagement
Increase police presence and proactive engagement with the public, including strengthened relationships with First Nations and community partners, to build trust, improve communication, and support crime prevention. - Property Crime Reduction
Address both major and minor property crime (e.g., break and enters, theft, vandalism) through intelligence-led policing, targeted enforcement, and prevention initiatives.
“In addition to survey feedback, our priorities were shaped through ongoing engagement with our Chiefs and Councils, Mayor and Council, meetings with diverse community groups and committees, as well as one‑on‑one conversations with residents,” said Inspector Marie‑Eve Mackenzie‑Plante, Officer in Charge of Whitehorse Detachment.
Whitehorse RCMP thank everyone who has provided feedback and shared their perspectives. Community perspectives play a direct role in guiding policing efforts and strengthening community safety.
Background:
Territory-wide policing priorities are established by the Yukon Minister of Justice, informed by the public, Yukon Police Council, the Department of Justice, and the RCMP. The Whitehorse Detachment sets community-specific priorities to address local needs and input from multiple sources.
Members of the public were invited to help identify priorities through a community survey. This marks the sixth consecutive year the detachment has used a survey to gather input on local policing priorities.
Whitehorse Detachment’s 2025–2026 priorities were illicit substances, property crime, and traffic enforcement.
