Ongoing crime reduction efforts lead to multiple arrests and seizure of drugs in Watson Lake

Two investigations in under seven days have led to the arrest of four individuals and the seizure of 107 grams of suspected cocaine in Watson Lake.

On September 1, 2026 at approximately 6:00 p.m., Watson Lake RCMP, with the assistance of the M Division Plainclothes Units and Critical Incident Program and a K Division Emergency Response Team (ERT), executed a search warrant on a residence in the community. During a search of the property, officers located and seized $13,266 in cash and 83 grams of suspected cocaine.

Two individuals have been charged in connection with this investigation which stemmed from a complaint of firearms violence that had occurred in the community.

Christopher Munch, 49, of British Columbia, has been charged with:

Possession for the purpose of trafficking;

Possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000;

Possession of weapon contrary to order;

Possession of a weapon for dangerous purpose; and

two charges of Fail to comply with a probation order.

Jade Miller, 33, of Watson Lake, YT has been charged with:

Possession for the purpose of trafficking.

Both individuals have been remanded into custody. Their next court date is Sept. 4 in Whitehorse.

In an unrelated investigation, Watson Lake RCMP charged two individuals from Alberta and seized 24 grams of suspected cocaine following a response to a stolen vehicle complaint.

On August 28, Watson Lake RCMP responded to a report of a stolen vehicle from Edmonton which was believed to be in the community. Officers located the vehicle and arrested two people. 

A subsequent search of the vehicle resulted in the seizure of 24 grams of a substance believed to be cocaine and a loaded rifle.

Shannon Kerr, 43, and Wesley Grist, 44, both of Edmonton have been charged with:

Unauthorized possession of a firearm in a motor vehicle; and

Possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000.

Kerr was also charged for failing to comply with conditions of a release order.  

Both were remanded into custody. Their next court dates in Whitehorse are Sept. 16 for Grist and Sept. 4 for Kerr. Watson Lake RCMP is continuing to investigate both matters.

“These investigations demonstrate the continued focus of the Watson Lake Detachment on reducing crime and ensuring a safer community,” said Sgt. Jordan Cropper, the Watson Lake Detachment Commander.
