RCMP Major Crime Unit has laid charges in relation to the 2020 murder of a Chestermere resident. Sahil Grewal, an 18-year-old resident of Chestermere, died in hospital on April 6, 2020, after an April 3, 2020, incident.

The complex five-year long investigation has led to RCMP arresting and charging a 23-year-old resident of Conrich, Alta. The investigation showed the 23-year-old individual delivered a noxious substance to the now deceased, which he consumed. It is alleged the substance was also intended for a 25-year-old Calgary resident Jaskaran Sidhu. Sidhu did not receive or consume the substance and was unharmed.

The 23-year-old individual has been charged with:

•          First-degree murder

•          Attempted murder

The 23-year-old individual is currently in custody on other matters.
