Wood Buffalo RCMP on scene of fatal multi-vehicle collision – update #2

Fort McMurray, Alta. – Wood Buffalo RCMP Municipal Traffic Services, with assistance from Alberta RCMP Forensic Collision Reconstructionist, have completed the investigation into the fatal motor vehicle collision that occurred on Jan. 7, 2026 at the intersection of Highway 63 and Airport Road. Criminal charges have now been laid in connection with the collision. 

A 26-year-old resident of Fort McMurray, is facing charges:

  • Impaired operation causing death
  • Dangerous operation causing death
  • Dangerous operation causing bodily harm
  • Impaired operation causing bodily harm 
  • Forcible confinement

The individual was remanded into custody and is set to appear in the Alberta Court of Justice in Fort McMurray on March 23, 2026.
