Wood Buffalo RCMP investigate fatal pedestrian collision – update

Fort McMurray, Alta. – Wood Buffalo RCMP, with assistance from Wood Buffalo General Investigation Section, Forensic Identification Services, Alberta RCMP Forensic Collision Reconstruction and Alberta RCMP Digital Forensic Services, have completed the investigation into a fatal pedestrian collision that occurred on Nokohoo Drive in Chipewyan Prairie First Nation, south of Fort McMurray on Nov. 14, 2025 and have laid criminal charges as a result.
The driver of the vehicle, a 16-year-old male youth resident of Chipewyan Prairie First Nation, who cannot be named under provisions of the Youth Criminal Justice Act, is facing charges:
- Dangerous operation of a motor vehicle causing death;
- Criminal negligence causing death;
- Failure to stop after accident resulting in death;
- Operate a motor vehicle without holding an operators licence; and
- Drive uninsured motor vehicle on highway.
The male youth has been released on an Undertaking and is set to appear in the Alberta Court of Justice in Fort McMurray on Mar. 18, 2026.
A 39-year-old resident of Chipewyan Prairie First Nation is also facing charges:
- Criminal negligence causing death
The resident of Chipewyan Prairie First Nation, who cannot be named until an Information is sworn, was released on an Appearance Notice and is set to appear in the Alberta Court of Justice in Fort McMurray on Mar. 18, 2026.
