St. Paul RCMP on scene of second serious motor vehicle collision – Update

St. Paul, Alta. — On March 2, 2026, at approximately 1:09 p.m., St. Paul RCMP responded to an iPhone crash notification on Highway 29, approximately 1 km west of St. Paul, between Range Road 105 and Range Road 110.Police are now clear from the scene.
Preliminary investigation reveals a garbage truck travelling eastbound on Highway 29, was unable to stop for a semi-truck turning southbound and swerved left into westbound lane to avoid a collision with the semi, but unfortunately collided head-on with a westbound SUV travelling in that lane at that time.
The 36-year-old driver, and a 44-year-old passenger of the SUV, succumbed to their injuries on scene. The two rear passengers needed to be extracted from the vehicle. 29- and 38-year-old, passengers sustained life-threatening injuries and were transported to hospital where they are receiving medical attention. The 53-year-old driver of the garbage truck was treated on scene for his injuries and released.
St. Paul Fire and Rescue, Emergency Medical Services, Saddle Lake RCMP and multiple units from St. Paul RCMP attended to this collision to provide their services. An RCMP Forensic Collision Reconstructionist from the Eastern Alberta District is assisting in this investigation. This investigation remains ongoing.
St. Paul RCMP extend their condolences to the family and friends of the deceased.
