Wainwright, Alta. — On Feb. 28, 2026, at approximately 9 a.m., Wainwright RCMP responded to a fatal motor vehicle collision involving a minivan and a semi truck with trailer, on Highway 41, near Township Road 444 just south of Wainwright.

Preliminary investigation reveals a mini van was attempting to pass a vehicle, while visibility was obscured by fresh blowing snow, and collided head on with a semi truck. The sole 35-year-old occupant of the minivan and resident of Wainwright succumbed to his injuries on scene. The 51-year-old driver of the semi-truck was transported by ground ambulance to a nearby hospital where he was treated for his injuries and released.

An RCMP Forensic Collision Reconstructionist from the Eastern Alberta District is assisting in this investigation. This investigation remains ongoing.

Wainwright RCMP extend their condolences to the family and friends of the deceased.
