Wood Buffalo RCMP respond to Robbery, suspect arrested

Fort McMurray, Alta – On Mar. 6, 2026, at approximately 9:06 a.m., Wood Buffalo RCMP responded to a report of a robbery at Mr. Liquor, located in the 9000 block of King Street, in the downtown area of Fort McMurray.  A suspect was alleged to have stolen a bottle of liquor and when the employee confronted them, the suspect raised the bottle threatening the employee. Once the employee removed the suspect from the business, they brandished a machete. The suspect fled the scene on foot prior to police arrival and RCMP conducted patrols in the area.  The employee did not suffer any physical injuries in the robbery. 

The suspect was identified by Police through video surveillance. They were located and arrested shortly thereafter without incident.  

A 26-year-old resident of Fort McMurray, was charged with:

  • Robbery;
  • 3 counts of Theft;
  • Possession of a Weapon for a dangerous purpose; and
  • Uttering Threats.

The individual was held for a Judicial Interim Hearing and was remanded into custody.  They are set to appear next in the Alberta Court of Justice in Fort McMurray on Mar. 16, 2026.
