Bashaw RCMP lay weapons charges after Emergency Response Team deployment

Mirror, Alta.- On Feb. 22, 2026 Bashaw RCMP responded to a report of an assault at a residence where the victim was struck with a shot gun. RCMP responded and set up containment of the residence. The Alberta RCMP Emergency Response Team was deployed and after some negotiation the suspect surrendered and was arrested. 

Bashaw RCMP drafted a search warrant and with help from the Central Alberta Crime Reduction Unit a search was conducted of the home where a shot gun and ammunition was seized. 

As a result of the investigation, RCMP have charged a 44-year-old individual with;

• Assault by choking;
• Assault with a weapon;
• Uttering threats;
• Assault;
• Failing to comply with release conditions; and
• Weapons/Firearm offences (x5).

The individual was taken before a Justice of the Peace and remanded into custody with their next court date set for March 13, 2026 at the Alberta Court of Justice in Stettler.
