Spirit River RCMP lays charges in assault investigation

Woking, Alta. – On Feb. 24, 2026, Spirit River RCMP responded to an assault in progress at a residence in Woking. Upon arrival, police located a suspect who was promptly arrested. Upon further investigation, a second suspect was arrested due to reports of a firearm being pointed. A warrant was obtained for the residence resulting in the seizure of three firearms, one of which was loaded and hidden under a couch.
As a result of the investigation, the first suspect, a 44-year-old and a second suspect, 45-year-old, both residents of Woking, were arrested. The first individual was charged with multiple weapons-related offences while the second was charged with assault and uttering threats.
Both individuals were brought before a justice of the peace and released on conditions. The first individual is to appear before the Alberta Court of Justice in Grande Prairie on March 23, 2026.
The second individual was supposed to appear before the same court on March 12, 2026, but has failed to appear. They have been charged with his failure to appear as well as theft of fuel and environmental damage due to negligence, which took place as they were leaving the area. Warrants have been emitted for their arrest.
