Peace River RCMP responds to firearm-related call

Peace River, Alta. – On March 16, 2026, Peace River RCMP received a report of an individual pointing a firearm in Woodland Cree First Nation. Peace River RCMP, assisted by Red Earth Creek RCMP and Alberta RCMP Police Dog Services (PDS), responded. Upon arrival, the suspect fled police and a pursuit ensued, ending after the suspect ran into the bush and was ultimately located by the police dog. The following day, a search warrant was executed at a residence in Woodland Cree First Nation resulting in the recovery of the firearm.
As a result of the investigation, a 35-year-old, a resident of Cadotte Lake, Alta., was charged with:
- Assault with a weapon;
- Pointing a firearm;
- Flight from police;
- Resist police;
- Operation while prohibited;
- Dangerous operation of a motor vehicle;
- Traffic Safety Act violations (x3); and
- Other firearm-related offences (x2).
Furthermore, several outstanding warrants, some of which included similar offences, were executed upon their arrest. The individual was brought before a justice of the peace and remanded into custody. They are to appear before the Alberta Court of Justice in Peace River on March 23, 2026.
