Maskwacis RCMP charge individual for Ermineskin First Nation homicide

Ermineskin Cree Nation, Alta. – On March 19, 2026, at 6:51 a.m., Maskwacis RCMP was dispatched to a residence on the Ermineskin First Nation for a report of a shooting. Upon arrival, RCMP located a 29-year-old, deceased inside the residence from an apparent gunshot wound.
Investigation identified a possible suspect who had fled the scene with a firearm. Resources were called in to assist in the search, including officers from RCMP Traffic Services, Wetaskiwin RCMP, Maskwacis RCMP, Central Alberta District Crime Reduction Unit, RCMP Police Dog Services and the Emergency Response Team. RCMP Major Crimes Unit took carriage of the investigation. The suspect was located in the area and was taken into custody.
On March 20, 2026, 32-year-old, resident of Louis Bull Tribe, was charged with the Second-Degree Murder. They were remanded into custody and will appear in Alberta Court of Justice in Wetaskiwin on March 26, 2026.
