Red Earth Creek, Alta. - On March 31, 2026, at 07:24 a.m., Red Earth Creek RCMP received a complaint from an unknown caller reporting shots fired in the community of Trout Lake, Alta. Further reports came in from the public advising that they had received a call from their friend, who had locked themself in the house, because someone was shooting a rifle at a nearby residence. Red Earth Creek RCMP arrived on scene at 08:45 a.m., set up containment and attempted to call out the suspect. After two hours, the suspect surrendered themself to RCMP officers.
As a result of the investigation, a 26-year-old resident of Trout Lake, was charged with:
- Careless use of a firearm;
- Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose;
- Possession of a firearm without a license; and
- Obstruct police.
The individual was brought before a justice of the peace and remanded into custody. They are to appear before the Alberta Court of Justice in Grande Prairie on April 7, 2026.
