RCMP Southern Alberta District Crime Reduction Unit arrest prolific offender on 5 outstanding warrants and lay 13 additional charges

Southern Alberta - In March of 2026, Alberta RCMP’s Southern Alberta Crime Reduction Unit (SAD CRU) entered an investigation into a series of thefts primarily occurring at recreation centres in Calgary and multiple surrounding areas. Arrest warrants were obtained, as a result of theft and misuse of a credit card at a recreation centre in Cochrane in October 2025. As well as a theft from a business in High River in September 2025. The same suspect was identified in and had been identified as a suspect via security footage in other similar occurrences in Canmore, Okotoks, Airdrie, Tsuut’ina Nation and multiple occurrences in Calgary. 

On April 2, 2026, Alberta RCMP’s SAD CRU located the suspect at a recreation facility in Calgary and arrested them on five outstanding warrants. The suspect was found to be in possession of stolen property from 11 different victims from the recreation facility and was also in possession of a tool used to break into lockers at the facility.  

A 47-year-old, who resides in both Edmonton and Calgary, is facing multiple charges, including:

  • Theft under $5000 x 11 counts;
  • Possession of a Break-In Instrument; and 
  • Mischief under $5000.   

Additional charges are expected to be laid. The individual was held for a Judicial Interim Release Hearing and was remanded to appear on April 7, 2026, in the Alberta Court of Justice in Calgary.
