Alberta RCMP Traffic – Whitecourt Unit seizes dangerous weapons

Whitecourt, Alta. - On April 6, 2026, members of the Alberta RCMP Traffic – Whitecourt Unit were patrolling Highway 43 in the MD of Greenview, Alta., near Fox Creek. During the patrol, officers observed a damaged vehicle parked in a roadside pullout. The driver appeared to be slumped over the steering wheel. Officers approached the vehicle to check on the driver’s wellbeing.

While speaking with the driver, officers observed contraband items in plain view, which led to the arrest of the driver. Following the arrest, a search of the vehicle was conducted. As a result of the search, RCMP recovered the following items:

  • A sawed-off .410 shotgun;
  • Ammunition;
  • A set of aluminum knuckle dusters (brass knuckles); and
  • A quantity of drug paraphernalia.

As a result of the investigation a resident of Spirit River, Alta., was charged with numerous firearms and weapons-related offences. The individual was brought before a justice of the peace and released on conditions. They are to appear before the Alberta Court of Justice in Whitecourt on April 28, 2026.

“The mandate of the Alberta RCMP Traffic Units is to enhance public safety by reducing harm and hazardous behaviours on Alberta roadways” said Sgt. Gregory Anderson, NCO i/c of the Alberta RCMP Traffic – Whitecourt Unit. “This is done through partnerships, enforcement, education and crime reduction initiatives.”
