Edson RCMP charges 2 individuals in home invasion

Edson, Alta. - On April 5, 2026, at approximately 9:20 a.m., Edson RCMP members responded to a 911 report of a home invasion with a firearm. Members attended the residence and the suspects had left the scene. Investigation revealed that the suspects arrived at the residence, broke in and demanded money while holding what was described to be a sawed-off shotgun. A round was discharged into a closet door and the four suspects left the scene. Shortly after, 2 of the four suspects were located at a different residence in Edson, prompting the heavy police presence release sent to the public. Both were arrested, one of which was the shooter.

As a result of the investigation, the following individuals were arrested:

• A 37-year-old resident of Edson was charged with 11 offences including break and enter and recklessly discharging a firearm. They were brought before a justice of the peace and remanded into custody, to appear before the Alberta Court of Justice in Edson on April 9, 2025.
• A 44-year-old resident of Edson was charged with break and enter, mischief and using a firearm in the commission of an offence. They were released on an Undertaking, to appear before the Alberta Court of Justice in Edson on April 9, 2025.

Edson RCMP wants to reassure the public that this was a targeted incident, the victims and the suspects knew each other. The firearm was recovered by police, and no one was injured. Edson RCMP are still looking for 2 potential suspects in relation to this incident.
