Brooks, Alta. – On April 8, 2026, at approximately 2:10 p.m., Brooks RCMP and other Emergency Services including EMS, Fire Department, and Peace Officers, responded to multiple calls of a single vehicle collision located near the intersection of Highway 36 and Highway 539, South of Brooks. A damaged SUV was found in the west ditch. Medical aid was provided to both occupants within. A 35-year-old resident of Pincher Creek was declared deceased at the scene. A child with serious injuries was transported and subsequently airlifted to the hospital. The investigation has determined that the vehicle was traveling Northbound on the highway and entered the opposite ditch, eventually rolling over.

RCMP continues to investigate this matter, but speed and alcohol are not believed to be a factor. The highway is now fully open for travel.
