High Prairie, Alta. – On Saturday, Apr. 11, 2026, around 2:15 p.m., High Prairie RCMP responded to a fatal motor vehicle collision. Preliminary investigation reveals a semi-truck travelling northbound on Highway 750, approximately 16 kms south of Gift Lake Métis Settlement, collided head-on with a pick-up truck travelling southbound. The semi-truck attempted to swerve to avoid the collision but was unable to avoid the collision and ended up going off road into the ditch afterwards. The 44-year-old driver and sole occupant of the pick-up truck, a resident of Gift Lake Métis Settlement, was ejected from his vehicle and declared deceased at scene.  The 52-year-old driver, and sole occupant of the semi-truck, was transported by ground ambulance to a nearby hospital where they were treated and released. The oil spill was contained, clean up crews attended and it was drained to another tanker.

High Prairie RCMP send their condolences to family and friends of the deceased.
