Lloydminster, Alta. – On Apr. 13, 2026, Lloydminster RCMP responded to five suspected overdoses in the span of 7 hours, with at least 4 doses of Narcan utilized to help, and in one instance Lloydminster RCMP members transported the person in need to the hospital because of a delay with ground ambulance services. All of these overdoses have been separate incidents. None of these overdoses have resulted in a fatality. Investigation has not yet indicated where the drugs consumed were purchased. Though drug analysis still needs to be completed, it is suspected that these drugs may have been laced or have higher levels of opioids than expected.

Lloydminster RCMP are issuing this public notice as a reminder of the dangers of consuming illicit drugs.

Lloydminster RCMP would also like to remind the public that the signs of a fentanyl overdose include:

  • Slow, irregular, and shallow breathing,
  • pinpoint pupils,
  • muscle stiffness,
  • seizures, and
  • unconsciousness.

Furthermore, should you still choose to consume illicit drugs, here are some safe practices to follow:

  • Avoid using while alone.
  • Ask someone to check on you or consume while on the phone with a trusted person who is able to call for assistance in the event of an overdose.
  • Know the signs and symptoms of poisoning/overdose and call 911 for direction and support.
  • Carry a naloxone kit, and know how to use it, so you can respond to a suspected opioid poisoning/overdose.
  • Consider using the Digital Overdose Response System app when consuming drugs.

For anyone seeking help, the Virtual Opioid Dependency Program can assist members of the public who struggle with addiction issues and wish to safely change their life habits and live healthy lives. This service also offers information to family and friends. For more information, you can contact the addiction helpline at 1-866-332-2322.
