Red Deer RCMP generate a dual response: a wanted offender and an impaired driver

Red Deer, Alta. – On Apr. 1, 2026, Red Deer RCMP Crime Reduction Team (CRT) initiated an investigation into the location of a wanted repeat offender in Red Deer, Alta. 

On Apr. 2, 2026, the investigation led officers to a rural residence where the suspect fled in a vehicle.  A tire deflation device was deployed, and the vehicle continued to flee from police at a high rate of speed. 

With the assistance of Red Deer RCMP Police Dog Services (PDS), police stopped the vehicle. The driver and lone occupant of the vehicle, 51-year-old resident of Red Deer, was arrested for multiple outstanding warrants. 

In addition, the individual was charged with the following:

• Operate a conveyance dangerous to the public;
• Flight from peace officer;
• Possession of a controlled substance; and
• Drive motor vehicle without insurance.

Following a Judicial Interim Release (JIR) Hearing, the individual was remanded into custody to appear in the Alberta Cout of Justice in Red Deer on Apr. 17, 2026. 

While police were on scene of the initial investigation, the driver of an SUV failed to observe police with emergency lights and tow trucks working on the roadway. The SUV drove directly into the back of a stopped pick-up truck, causing a multi-vehicle collision. 

As a result of this collision, the 46-year-old driver of the SUV was arrested and charged for impaired driving. The driver, a resident of Red Deer, was issued a 90-day driving suspension in accordance with the Traffic Safety Act, Immediate Roadside Sanctions (IRS).

No injuries were sustained during the collision. 

The Red Deer RCMP would like to thank the Alberta RCMP Emergency Response Team (ERT) who were in the area and assisted in the initial file.
