Westlock RCMP investigating false firearms complaint

Wetaskiwin, Alta. – On April 15, 2026, at approximately 11:13 a.m., Westlock RCMP received a call from an unknown person who reported a firearms incident at a local residence. As a result of this report, RCMP placed R.F. Staples High School and St. Mary's School on a hold and secure. This was done as a precaution.  

Investigation revealed the report was false and the hold and secure was lifted quickly after it was initiated. There was never a threat to the schools. 

The investigation into the initial call continues.
