Stettler, Alta.- On April 16, 2026, at 10:15 p.m., Stettler RCMP received reports that a youth was sending threats via snapchat to shoot students at the William E Hay School in Stettler. Officers quickly initiated an investigation and obtained evidence to support an arrest. One youth suspect has been arrested and is in custody with charges pending for uttering threats. The youth will be taken before a Justice of the Peace in order to determine future court dates and determine release status.

Although RCMP do not believe there is an ongoing risk to students and staff, the Settler RCMP School Recourse Officer and Detachment are currently engaged working with the school and out of an abundance of caution will have an ongoing police presence.
