Alberta RCMP MCU investigates homicide in Peace River

Peace River, Alta. – On April 23, 2026, around 4:23 a.m., Peace River RCMP were called to the Petro-Canada on 78 street for an individual found deceased at the gas pumps. Peace River RCMP responded and obtained video surveillance showing a suspect stealing a vehicle, getting into the driver seat and running over the victim, ultimately resulting in their death. The incident happened approximately two hours prior to police being called. The vehicle has since been recovered. Alberta RCMP Major Crimes Unit (MCU) was dispatched and has taken carriage of the investigation, with assistance from Peace River RCMP Forensic Identification Section and General Duty, as well as the Edmonton Office of the Chief Medical Examiner.
Alberta RCMP MCU is seeking public assistance in identifying the suspect as well as the movements of the stolen vehicle between 2 a.m. and 2 p.m. on April 23, 2026. The vehicle is described as a red 2005 Dodge Caravan Taxi bearing Alberta licence plate L98636, with white business lettering on the door and white taxi lamp on the roof. The suspect was wearing a black jacket, blue jeans, black t-shirt with white decal, black boots, one grey glove and one black glove.
