Smoky Lake, Alta. – Parkland RCMP and Smoky Lake RCMP would like to advise that on April 26, 2026, two members of the public located and rescued the stolen birds in their crate on Highway 16, near Duffield, Alta.
The members of the public took care of Pete and Hilda (the peacock and peahen) until they noted through media that they were the stolen birds. The individuals contacted the Smoky Lake RCMP, who aided in the safe return of Pete and Hilda to their owners. The stolen white 2005 Ford F350 baring British Columbia licence plate SY7996 is still outstanding.
The Parkland RCMP and Smoky Lake RCMP would like to extend thanks to the members of the public who rescued and returned the birds to their rightful owner. This is a great example of the police and public working together to achieve a positive outcome for everyone involved.
“A happy ending! Smoky Lake RCMP were delighted to assist in bringing Pete and Hilda back to their owner.” Says Sergeant Anita Doktor of the Smoky Lake RCMP.
