Bonnyville RCMP lay charges in relation to assault with a weapon

Bonnyville, Alta. - On Feb. 12, 2026, around 7:30 p.m., Bonnyville RCMP Detachment responded to a report of assault with a weapon, related to an earlier altercation between the involved parties. Preliminary investigation reveals several individuals forced entry into a residence and the homeowner was assaulted with a weapon by a suspect. The homeowner reportedly obtained a weapon and caused seriously injury to one of the suspects. The suspects took the weapon, exited the residence, and got into their vehicle. The homeowner exited their residence and discharged a firearm at the vehicle, solely damaging the vehicle. 

The suspect, a 54-year-old resident of Bonnyville, is facing charges for assault causing bodily harm and possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose. 

They appeared before the Justice and was released on conditions. They are set to appear at the Alberta Court of Justice in Bonnyville on May 19, 2026.

The homeowner, a 52-year-old resident of Bonnyville, is facing multiple charges, including utter threats and 7 firearm related offences.

They are to appeared before the Justice and was released on conditions. They are set to appear at the Alberta Court of Justice in Bonnyville on May 26, 2026.

The homeowner and the suspect were both treated at separate nearby hospitals and released after receiving medical care. Bonnyville RCMP investigation is ongoing.
