Ponoka RCMP charge individual with assault and uttering threats

Ponoka, Alta.- On April 4, 2026, shortly after 6 a.m., Ponoka RCMP responded to a report of a male being threatened with a baseball bat on 50 street in Ponoka.
The victim reported that he was riding his bicycle home when he noticed a truck following him and taking photographs of him. The victim then used his cellphone to take a photograph of the truck. The male driver exited the truck and confronted the victim.
During the confrontation, the suspect retrieved a baseball bat from the truck and used it damage the victim’s bicycle and cart. The suspect then allegedly threatened the victim with the baseball bat.
The suspect and victim were not known to each other.
As a result of the investigation a 50-year-old resident of Ponoka has been charged with:
- Assault with a weapon;
- Uttering threats; and
- Mischief under $5,000.
They were released on an Undertaking and is scheduled to appear at the Alberta Court of Justice in Ponoka on June 12, 2026.
