St. Paul, Alta. - The 44th Annual RCMP Challenge Cup Relay Race, better known as the RCMP Road Race, is scheduled to take place Wednesday, May 6th, 2026.
The RCMP Road Race is entering its 44th annual running with a long history of successful participation. The event is an opportunity for youth to interact with members of the RCMP in a positive environment, working towards stronger relationships within the community. The event encourages interactive partnerships between local law enforcement and the individuals, organizations, and relevant stakeholders that form our community. The race experiences wide-spread participation from numerous schools in the Lakeland-area and is an excellent opportunity to promote physical wellness and engage youth with our community policing initiatives. As an organization, it is vital that connections are formed with youth so that they know that they can approach members of the RCMP when they are needed. This is an event that means a lot to the St. Paul Detachment, along with the communities that we serve.
On Wednesday, members of the public can expect to see relay teams from junior and senior high schools partake in the relay race that begins west of St. Brides, continuing East along Highway 29, and into St. Paul. We expect that the race will be underway shortly after 10 a.m. local time and will reach completion by 12:30 noon. Members from each relay team will be running a length of one mile before handing off to their teammates. Should the public wish to watch the event, we would ask that they only do so at the finish line which remains the St. Paul Recreation Centre (4802 53 Street, St. Paul, AB).
We ask that the motoring public remain vigilant and exercise caution if they are planning travel that will include this route, as runners will be present alongside the south shoulder of Highway 29. St. Paul RCMP will be present throughout the event alongside our partners from other public safety agencies to monitor traffic and ensure the safety of all our participants. Race rules explicitly prohibit coaches, spectators, parents, or fans from driving alongside runners and only authorized vehicles and personnel will be permitted to park south of the highway. All rules of the road must be obeyed, and all applicable legislation will remain in effect.
