Wood Buffalo RCMP investigate thefts from vehicles, suspects arrested

Fort McMurray, Alta. – On May 5, 2026 at 6:30am, Wood Buffalo RCMP responded to multiple complaints of damage and theft from at least 10 vehicles parked 135A Sandpiper Road in Fort McMurray. Police obtained surveillance which showed a White Dodge Journey with three suspects entering the parking garage at that location and going through vehicles.
Property stolen from one of the victim’s vehicles contained an air tag which provided a location in the area of Greentree Crescent in the Gregoire area of Fort McMurray. At approximately 11:30am, Wood Buffalo RCMP attended the area and located one of the three suspects near the suspect vehicle. First suspect was subsequently arrested without incident. A second suspect was located at a nearby residence and arrested without incident.
A 33-year-old resident of Edmonton, is facing charges:
54 counts including charges for:
- Possession of Property obtained by Crime Over $5,000;
- Possession of Property obtained by Crime Under $5,000;
- Possession of identify documents;
- Mischief under $5,000;
- Theft under $5,000;
- Theft of Credit Card; and
- Two counts Possession of mail key.
They were held for a Judicial Interim Release Hearing and released on a Release Order with cash bail. They are set to appear next in the Alberta Court of Justice in Fort McMurray on May 11, 2026.
The second individual, a 38-year-old resident of Edmonton, is facing charges:
107 counts including charges for:
- Possession of Property obtained by Crime Over $5,000;
- Possession of Property obtained by Crime Under $5,000;
- Possession of identify documents;
- Mischief under $5,000;
- Theft under $5,000;
- Theft of Credit Card;
- Two counts Possession of mail key; and
- Fail to comply with Condition of Release Order.
They were also found to be at large on a Release Order and wanted multiple Provincial Warrants for their arrest unrelated to these matters. The individual was held for a Judicial Interim Release Hearing and remanded into custody. They are set to appear next in the Alberta Court of Justice in Fort McMurray on May 7, 2026.
