Cochrane RCMP arrests and charge individual after flight from police

Cochrane, Alta. - On May 12, 2026, at approximately 8:17 a.m., Cochrane RCMP received several calls regarding vehicles unlawfully entered and items stolen, in the Jumping Pound neighborhood of Cochrane. One of the complainants had their 2017 Ford Escape stolen in the time frame of the thefts.

This stolen vehicle was tracked using Ford Pass. It travelled into Calgary, back to Cochrane and again into Calgary. Calgary Police Service was engaged, including HAWCS. Resources utilized for covert surveillance were RCMP Real Time Operations Center (RTOC), RCMP Police Dog Services, Southern Alberta Crime Reduction Unit (CRU) and Cochrane CRU. The vehicle was tracked into Calgary and CPS RTOC took over command of the incident. 

The suspect vehicle eventually collided with a civilian vehicle and SAD CRU were able to arrest the sole occupant. The civilian was not injured. Officers also recovered numerous stolen items inside the vehicle. 

A 37-year-old resident of Cochrane, has been charged with the following: 

  • Resist arrest;
  • Possession of property obtained by crime (x3);
  • Flight from a police officer; and
  • Dangerous driving.

After a Judicial Interim Release Hearing, they were remanded into custody to appear in Alberta Court of Justice on CCTV on May 19.
