High Prairie RCMP obtains arrest warrant in attempted murder investigation

High Prairie, Alta. - On May 15, 2026, around 6 p.m., in Kapawe'no First nation, Alta., two individuals, known to each other, fired shots at each other in a local cul-de-sac. One of the individuals was struck and ended up collapsing nearby while the other drove off and has yet to be apprehended. The firearm used by the individual who was struck was recovered and was noted to be a handgun modified for automatic fire and holding 33 rounds. The serial number was also defaced. First aid was administered to the individual by witnesses and RCMP until EMS arrived to transport him to the hospital with life-threatening injuries.
Investigation revealed the identity of the individual who drove away and a warrant was obtained for his arrest. As a result, Lucas Zane Auger (35), a resident of Driftpile, Alta., was charged with:
- Attempted murder;
- Pointing a firearm;
- Possession of a firearm while prohibited (x2); and
- Possession of a weapon without a license.
Lucas Zane Auger is still at large and is considered to be armed. Anyone with any information on his whereabouts is asked to please contact the High Prairie RCMP at 780-523-3378.
