Wood Buffalo RCMP arrest individual wanted on warrants after fleeing from police

Fort McMurray, Alta – On May 18, 2026, at approximately 12:08 a.m., Wood Buffalo RCMP were patrolling the Thickwood neighbourhood of Fort McMurray when they observed a white GMC Sierra being driven by an individual who had outstanding warrants.

Before a traffic stop could be initiated, the white GMC Sierra was located parked in a lot on Stroud Bay with an individual attempting to fill the vehicle with fuel. As RCMP approached the suspect, they fled on foot towards Signal Road. 

RCMP lost visual of the suspect in the 600 Block of Signal Road and containment was established in the area. With the assistance of Wood Buffalo RCMP Police Dog Services, the suspect was located hiding in the Circle K on Signal Road. They were  arrested for their outstanding warrants without further incident. 

The initial Police investigation determined that the white GMC Sierra was stolen and had yet to be reported to police.

A 35- year-old resident of Fort McMurray, was arrested for outstanding Provincial warrants for:

• Drive without insurance;
• Fail to attend court;
• Fail to comply with a release order; and
• Possession of property over $5000.00.

This individual is also facing charges:

• Possession of property obtained by crime

They were held for a Judicial Interim Release Hearing. They have since been released from custody and is set to appear in the Alberta Court of Justice in Fort McMurray on June 24, 2026.
