Alberta RCMP Major Crimes Unit investigates aggravated assault - Update

Evansburg, Alta. – On May 28, 2026, RCMP Major Crimes Unit charged a 52-year-old resident of Evansburg, with aggravated assault, dangerous driving causing injury and flight from police, because of this incident. After a Judicial Interim Release Hearing, the individual remanded into custody to appear in Albert Court of Justice in St. Albert on June 1, 2026. 

On May 28, 2026, the victim, a 46-year-old, also an Evansburg resident, passed away in hospital. An autopsy was performed on May 29, 2026, at the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Edmonton, and the cause of death was ruled a homicide. On June 1, 2026, the charge of aggravated assault was withdrawn, and a new charge of manslaughter was issued. 

The investigation continues.
