Viking, Alta. – On May 19, 2026, Viking RCMP arrested two males as part of an ongoing investigation impacting both Federal and Provincial Critical Infrastructure in the Viking area. These arrests, as well as the subsequent search warrants, allowed the Viking RCMP to identify, locate and recover thousands of dollars worth of materials stolen from Oil Sites and Railways in the area. Unfortunately, the damage done to the oil sites cannot be recovered at this time.

As a result of the investigation, a 39-year-old and a 56-year-old, both residents of Viking, are facing 6 charges, including:

  • Break and enter;
  • Theft under $5,000;
  • Possession of property obtained by crime; and
  • Trespass to premise.

Both subjects were released on conditions pending pre-charge approval, which has since been granted. They are to appear before the Alberta Court of Justice in Vegreville on July 13, 2026.

Viking RCMP would like to thank the businesses for the cooperation in the investigation.
