Wood Buffalo RCMP investigate impaired driver – suspect charged

Fort McMurray, Alta – On June 15, 2026, at approximately 9:00 p.m. Wood Buffalo RCMP responded to a complaint of a possible impaired driver near 200 Lougheed Drive. Police were dispatched to the area after the suspect driver drove into their own residence, causing damage to both the vehicle and structure. Prior to police arrival, the driver had entered the residence, initially refused to exit on police commands. Eventually the driver, later identified as a 35-year-old Fort McMurray resident, exited the home and was arrested without further incident. They were also found to have been bound by a Canada-wide Driving prohibition at the time of the collision.
The individual is facing multiple charges including:
- Operation of a conveyance while impaired
- Operation while impaired over 80 mg or alcohol
- Operation while prohibited
- Drive while unauthorized
- Operate motor vehicle without registration
- Operate motor vehicle without holding subsisting operator’s licence
- Drive uninsured motor vehicle
They were held for a judicial interim release hearing. They remain in custody and is set to appear in the Alberta Court of Justice in Fort McMurray on July 8, 2026.
