Wood Buffalo RCMP – hit and run leads to impaired investigation

Fort McMurray, Alta – On June 16, 2026, at approximately 4:13 p.m. Wood Buffalo RCMP received a report of a suspected impaired driver involved in a hit and run on Franklin Avenue in the downtown area of Fort McMurray. The suspect vehicle, identified as a white Chevrolet Equinox collided with a Grey Chevrolet Silverado. The driver of the white Chevrolet Equinox proceeded to drive away and was observed parking in the Peter Pond Mall parking lot. A confrontation occurred between the vehicle drivers before the suspect driver departed and entered the mall.
RCMP officers arrived on scene and entered the mall where they located and arrested the suspect driver.
In addition to Provincial Sanctions a 58-year-old resident of Fort McMurray is facing charges:
- Failure to stop after accident
- Disobeying court order
- Transporting liquor in an open container
- Drive uninsured motor vehicle
The individual was held for a judicial interim release hearing. The have since been released from custody and is set to appear in the Alberta Court of Justice in Fort McMurray on July 15, 2026.
