Rural Organized Crime Team arrest an individual on warrants

Maskwacis, Alta – On May 28, 2026, the Government of Alberta announced it was providing 8 million dollars in additional funds to law enforcement in Alberta to combat organized crime. The Alberta RCMP received 2 million in additional funding which has supported the creation of the Alberta Rural Organized Crime Team (ROCT) which is having an impact in Alberta communities every day.
On June 12, 2026, the Alberta RCMP Rural Organized Crime Team (ROCT) arrested an individual on outstanding warrants and concluded an ongoing investigation.
With the assistance of the Alberta RCMP Emergency Response Team (ERT), Maskwacis RCMP, Wetaskiwin RCMP, Alberta RCMP Air Services, and the Alberta RCMP K Division Police Dog Services (PDS), ROCT identified the location and whereabouts of a suspect wanted on outstanding warrants for multiple offences from multiple jurisdictions.
ROCT attended a residence in Maskwacis, and with the assistance of ERT and PDS, 29-year-old resident of Maskwacis, was located and arrested without incident.
They were arrested for outstanding warrants out of Wetaskiwin and Edmonton.
The Wetaskiwin warrants originated from a 2024 Maskwacis RCMP investigation. The individual is charged with the following:
- Assault causing bodily harm;
- Uttering threats to cause death or bodily harm (x2);
- Mischief;
- Forcible confinement;
- Assault with a weapon;
- Assaulting a peace officer;
- Aggravated assault;
- Fail to comply with a release order (x3);
- Obstructing a peace officer (x2);
- Fail to Attend Court; and
- Disobeying a court order (x2).
As a result of the investigation conducted by ROCT, they are additionally charged with:
- Obstructing a peace officer.
The individual was held for a Judicial Interim Release (JIR) hearing and was remanded into custody. They are scheduled to appear in the Alberta Court of Justice in Wetaskiwin at 9:30 a.m. on July 2, 2026.
They were also arrested for outstanding warrants out of Edmonton, in relation to an Edmonton Police Service (EPS) investigation from Jan. 2026.
